2005 Subararu Impreza STi: Car of the Month
THMotorsports loves nothing more than a great Subaru and a guy with a great name! Having said that, Zach Z. has created one great Subarua Impreza STi. Yeah, we know it's not a track beast like our Redline Time Attack Subaru, but it's definitely a car you can pick up your date in without them hitting their head on the roll cage. So, here is Zach Z's 2005 Subaru Impreza STi.                      Photography by Konrad Winkowski

the years I have learned more and more from him and everything I know today is credited to him. These early interactions with cars sparked my interest which grew even greater after I got my driver’s license and first car. Now I have a strong love for all cars especially Subarus. It has turned into an expensive hobby/ father son project. All the work on my STI was done by myself and my father, I think this gives me more pride in my car that I can say I did all the work instead of just handing it to a shop.

What attracted you to the Impreza? Ever since 2002, when the first WRX was released in the USA, I have wanted one. I started out in the Honda world and quickly outgrew it. I wanted a car with more power, so In 2006 I bought a 2002 WRX and fell in love. I did a few modifications to it and kept it for about a year. At this point I had to make a choice if I wanted to keep it and do an STI swap or just bite the bullet and purchase the STI. At the time I was looking at 2005 STI’s and Evo 8-9’s, what really drew me into choosing the STI was the fact that I loved my WRX and how friendly and helpful the Subaru community as a whole is. Long story short I found a great deal on a 2005 STI and bought it. I immediately fell in love with it. Over the three years I have owned it I slowly started to do modifications to it and it has transformed into what it is today. I have never had so much fun and learned so much with a car before and it never fails to put a big grin on my face when I drive it.

What are your plans for this car in the future? I recently purchased a Chargespeed wide body kit which is sitting in my basement waiting until the end of summer to put on and get the car repainted. The planned winter project is to get the 2.7L Brian Crower stroker kit / 282 Cams and put together a sleeved built block. Then I’m going to get the car retuned to max out the turbo and hopefully make over 500WHP. Then eventually upgrade the turbo to an APS TS70R and call the project done.

What shows will you be at? Every weekend in the spring and summer months I go to local shows in CT, MA , and RI. But I went to Wicked Big Meet which is the largest all Subaru meet on the east coast (for the non subie people). And I will be at Hot Import Nights / Nopi Boston.

Do you do any racing in the car? No, no organized racing in this car. It has way too much time and money in it for me to risk it. But that doesn’t mean I don’t go out and beat on her every once in a while.
